The excitement of browsing the secondary art market stems from the fact that the works available are constantly changing. The ever-changing tastes of art collectors results in a market where works are frequently bought and sold. One can never tell which coveted works will show up and when, which is why it pays to keep up with local art dealers on the secondary market. Patty Barnett has assembled a substantial collection of works that cover an extensive range of styles and mediums, available on consignment. This week’s blog features works from Alexandra Nechita, Joan Miro, Marc Chagall, and Theo Tobiasse.
Dubbed “the petit Picasso” for the strong influence of Cubism present in her art, Alexandra Nechita is one of the most well-known names in the art world today. A stone lithograph on paper, Voiceless Forest showcases her Cubist talents in full force. A thought-provoking and multi-layered work.
Nechita’s Cubist leanings are no less evident in Friends From Far Away. This first time offering from Barnett Fine Art is unique in that it is an overpaint, which Nechita hand-painted in 2006. A framed size 34, this overpaint is a stunning addition to any collection.
This lithograph from the late Joan Miro features a playful use of vibrant colors and lines. Miro, a native of Barcelona, was once described by Andre Breton, the founder of Surrealism, as “the most Surrealist of us all.” Barcelona paid homage to its native son with the opening of the Fundacio Joan Miro modern art museum in 1975.
One of the preeminent Jewish artists of the twentieth century, Marc Chagall drew on Jewish folk culture and early modernism to create works in numerous mediums. This color lithograph of Little Peasants is numbered 6/50 and is signed in pencil by Chagall.
After being born in Israel, Theo Tobiasse moved to Paris with his parents when he was 7 years old. He has spent much of his life in France, where he developed his unique style, which transports the viewer into an amorphous world of colors and shapes. Seen here is one of the works in Tobiasse’s Femmes Suite, L’enfant clown avec jeune graves qui chante l’eternelle plaisir de L’Escil.
